3. MISSION, REPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

a) Mission Statement

Our mission is to be recognised as the undisputed leaders in the promotion of mental health services in Zimbabwe.

We shall achieve this by:

•  Facilitating and advancing a high quality and compassionate service/care for people suffering from mental illness.

•  Facilitating and advancing a high quality and compassionate service/care for people suffering from mental illness.

•  Championing campaigns to increase awareness on mental health issues.

•  Developing a service which is comprehensive and responsive to people's needs, aspirations and sensitive to resource availability.

•  Encourage community participation and community care in the care of mentally ill.

•  Commitment to value people with mental illness as full citizens.

•  Endeavouring to develop to the full individual patients' potential through involvement in appropriate patient centred Occupational Therapy activities.

3b) Responsibilities and activities

This institution admits, treats, discharges patients suffering from mental illness and also looks after those who become mentally handicapped for life.

It is also the only institution where psychiatric nurses are trained as well as having student from various general hospital training schools brought for psychiatric experience.

Ingutsheni hospital is involved in appropriate occupational therapy activities.
